[recap: 6/7] Words and Music

Mac, musician and song-writter with Aroha, writes this month’s recap:

deme The Vibe of June was sweet to the ears.  It was another successful night at The Cup that is still penetrating my thoughts.  The stage was lit like a fire that would soon forge the rhythm of the night. There was a sence of excitement and anxiousness that pulsated through the room, filling the hearts of each being signed up on the list.  But even then the art that covered the walls and the dim house lights set a mood that could tame any lion.  Then the music hit with beats that signaled go time and The Rev took the stage.

The Rev was the master blaster for the evening, the ring master of sorts.  His personality booms with joy and an urban breath that captivates everyone in the room.  He commences his rap and all others follow the cadence of his voice.

yaniqueFirst on the list, was Just Words and he hit us like a fist. His Skat number came fierce and fast, leaving us all with our mouths filled with rat-a-tat-tat.  The Chico came after hitting us with a poem from deep in his matter.  The along came Yanique with a blend so sweet, an urban beat that asked the question, “what can I be Daddy, what can I be?”

jackThen along came Jack to the stage, holding a poem in each hand and letting the viewers chose their fate.  The right hand won and Jack read the words, they came sensual and real and invited us into his world.  Doug dropped it next with a fierce voice and lots of reason, with words that bloomed with detail and rhythm.  These two are a duo and they have more in the brew, so check it out soon.

jeff Aroha rocked out with love and an invitation to the community; they sang songs about hope for a generation and not worrying about the small things.  The Rev Donnie dropped a mad rhyme over their groove and then everyone joined in singing the_rev “Don’t worry!”

Then a warrior, wielding a guitar-like sword, entered playing a song that captured the hearts of everyone.  His double handed style brought magic to the strings and a melody so smooth that it brought you to life.  A warrior paul named Paul that could slay dragons with a song.

On flip was General Mills laying down some words that we could all feel.  Definite and true, his style was nice and smooth.  Al stood up to the plate and nailed a fast ball that when sky rocketing over the left field wall, his emotion was real and very raw.  Next was Kami, who brought a voice strong and true with a message that colored her heart with love.  Vitale hit the stage with a voice filled with question and a little bit of rage, “what happens to bums when they die is there a bum cemetery?”  Something I think we would all like to know.

Adrianna showed up and hit us with a flow, a view from her eyes and into our souls.  Jen hit afterwards like a volcano, inviting us into a view of relationship based matters, she took our minds and lifted them into Jen-land, and we enjoyed the ride.

jonathan Jonathan gave us a gift of folk music and sang us sweet and lo.  The tune of it was rich and thick and we dived into the waves.

Our man Gui let us have some keys and fell into the piano harmony he played.  Just words came back and covered us in words that blended together in an urban pot.

“Boys will be boys anyway” were the words that came to play from the voice of Liz A.  Ni strolled up and hit us with some gospel straight from her own creation and it got us all dreaming of salvation. Directly afterward was Adam Mac and he sang of a love that we all wish we had.  General Mills hit us up with a musical spill on his second time around.

Patricia took the role of closer, and it was hard to imagine the night was over, but she ended us with a modern day psalm and it exploded on us like a bomb.

All the words, and all the rhythm will be trapped in our hearts and painted in our minds.  What a beautiful night it was, filled with imagery and the passion of our hearts.  The diversity, the differences were all put into a drum that we beat on for a few hours and became as one.  Come Vibe With Us, the words echo in our ears, and let us know that there is always something deeper going on here.  Come Vibe With Us!

I huge thank you to Sal, Joe and everyone else that created the Vibe and give us a place to drop our words and are rhythms and live in the moment as one.  Thank you so much to all those poets and musicians.  Thank you so much to all those who just came to watch, it means more than you know.  Thank you to all.  MucH LovE.
